"Pandemic" - Illustration Contest Entry

Watercolour artwork made in 2021 for the illustration contest "A(R)Riscar", from the social solidarity association AJUDARIS, with the theme "Culture in a time of pandemic". [Pandemic], as the name says, is an interpretation of the Covid pandemic situation at the time the work was made.
☆ Contest finalist. This artwork was later used by the company Delta Cafés in the printing of sugar packets.

About the piece:
Mars is surrounded by satellites, referencing the attention that was paid to the planet at the time due to new discoveries. As it is uninhabited and free of human activity, Mars is turning its back on the viewer and is fully clothed.
Covid, in the middle, poses superior to Earth, standing on top of a coffin: the mass death of people, but also the serious worsening of economic, social, and cultural situations. Small viruses surround it.
Earth sits on the ground, fragile and devoid of protection, connected to a ventilator and accompanied by its small moon.
The burlesque style of the clothing was chosen because it is one of the most characteristic styles of theatre, and because of its quite beautiful aesthetic. This brings a dramatic and theatrical scenario to the pandemic, depicting a fictional outcome in which Mars would leave Earth behind in a weakened state because of the virus.
